Every Dollar Feeds Kids Helps VAMOS! | ||||||||||||||||||||

It's pretty amazing what a small group of friends with a big concern can do to help solve a problem. In 1999, following visits to the VAMOS! projects (schools and community centers serving poor children in Cuernavaca, Mexico), members and friends of First Congregational church in San Rafael, California made a pledge to raise as much money as they could to help feed the kids in the VAMOS! centers. We decided to call our project Every Dollar Feeds Kids (EDFK). EDFK works cooperatively with VAMOS!, an independent multi-program non-profit serving the poorest of the poor in Mexico (vamos.org.mx). With only 75 members, our hearts were big but our purses were small. We knew that just by ourselves, we wouldn't be able to do all that much to help VAMOS! VAMOS! currently supports 82 separate educational, health and nutrition projects in the Cuernavaca region. EDFK funds the food service programs for several of the feeding programs within the VAMOS! network. As most every "friend of EDFK" now knows, by expanding our circle of "friends" to include other churches, foundations, community donors, and our own fund raising events, EDFK has now provided more than $500,000 to pay for over a million meals for hungry VAMOS! kids. Following the VAMOS! model, we have never spent a single dollar for overhead. We hope that every reader of this website will think of other churches or community groups or individuals that can join us in having the satisfaction of directly feeding hungry kids and celebrating the joy of really making a difference in the lives of hundreds of poverty stricken children and their families. We are, of course, a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax exempt organization. We are anxious to tell the EDFK story to any person or group interested in becoming a "friend" of EDFK.
