In 2005, EDFK in Connecticut began supporting all the food and nutritional costs for the girls in an orphanagethe Fundacion Sor Domingo Boccain Guayaquil, Ecuador. EDFK's interaction with these girls began when a member of the Connecticut Partner Church in Southington went to work at the orphange in 2000. She witnessed the daily life of these girls and lived as they did during her stay of several months.
She joined the girls on their weekly visits to local grocers who let them pick through his garbage to find food for the orphanage. She baked bread and cakes with them to raise money to buy the rest of their food. She became completely involved in the life of the orphanage and the lives of the girls.
As EDFK became more involved in the project through subsequent visits, the deicison was made to fully support the feeding programs at the orphanage. The assurance has now been given the girls that they will never have to pick through the garbage again. Never!
